This painting originated as an automatic hand drawing, from which the shapes looked like a puzzle. So I highlighted the outlines of the puzzle pieces using red against a greenish oriented background palette. It was influenced by Andy Warhol’s “Flowers 1964” series.

My automatic hand drawing on a canvas progressed to look like a seed splitting in half. I thought of the germination of love. I took that idea and worked toward developing it by painting heart shapes and using warm colors.

I created the texture in this painting by scraping and dabbing. I wanted to keep the painting playful and whimsical, since a big heart and simple figures are at its center. I painted phenomena like flying spirits over the lake to keep it mystical as well.
