This spacey painting results from additional development of a painting I did a while ago. The new inspiration came from photos of the universe in space. The title always tickled me, and I wanted to add a bit of a frantic ambience.

This started as an enamel painting, then I applied vinyl wrap over the paint to create textures before it dried. Finally, I added lines, shapes, dots and paint splashes. The goal was to create a center motif toward which the whole would be oriented.
“Seaside Town under the White Moon” 30″ x 40″ 2024
I started with an automatic hand drawing, then I extracted some shapes and formed them into a composition which looked like a coastline with mountains. I scratched the surface with a plastic fork to create wave-like textures. I painted a moon, then the village and the reflections over the water.
“Sphinx” 9″ x 12″ 2024
This is a painting that I started a while ago. The idea of the sphinx came from Greek mythology: woman, bird and lion. I wrote the Greek word Sphinx into the painting.

I started with an automatic hand drawing, then added paint to fill up the shapes. To create depth and movement in the painting and bring certain objects forward, I added white horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines, then white circles to create a floating effect.

My usual method of painting resulted in the creation of many lines on the canvas. The result looked like a field with two objects in front. This composition then became the goal toward which I worked. I painted white lines and shapes to create depth between the two objects and the background.
